For many people, it’s like a surprise as well as a shock. Until now, acupuncture, a traditional Chinese technique, was used to treat back pain, neck pain, and pain of other body parts except dental pain. But today, dentists or acupuncturists are using acupuncture therapy along with modern dental treatments to ease dental pain.
The treatment involves the insertion of thin needles through the person’s skin at various points to various depths to relieve pain. Researchers and studies have shown that the therapy works well at balancing vital energy.
In dental acupuncture, the acupuncturist relieves dental pain by stimulating nerves within muscles and other tissues to release endorphins. Certain dental acupuncture points are worked upon by injecting extremely fine stainless-steel so that it relaxes the brain and spinal cord that process pain and stress. The process helps you relax by disabling the analytical brain which is responsible for anxiety.
When combined with the other symptoms, dental pain leaves the patients drained and irritable. Sometimes, the dental pain is severe and unbearable which also becomes life-threatening at times. The only solution to relieve dental pain was pain medications, which were addictive.
To reduce the use of pain medications and control the dental pain without any complications. Dental acupuncture came into the picture. It’s not a replacement for conventional treatment but just an alternative.
Firstly, acupuncture therapy is used thousands of years ago. The goal of the therapy is to treat the origin of the pain and just the pain itself. The treatment tones down the muscle spasms and the swelling caused by different dental issues.
On the other hand, pain medications and other surgical treatments are temporary and chances of bounce are very high. There is no guarantee that acupuncture therapy offers.
The time and number of sessions depend on the effect of the treatment on the people. Some people feel the effects immediately like in a session or two whereas others take time and have to visit the clinic several times to experience the full effects.
Another factor that determines the time for acupuncture therapy is the intensity of dental pain. For example, if you are a victim of chronic pain, the number of sessions and time for the treatment will be more compared to acute pain. So before the therapy starts, the acupuncturist will analyze and evaluate your dental condition.
Things have changed and so is dentistry. Conventional dental treatments are used but with more efficiency with the help of acupuncture therapy. So, you shouldn’t hesitate if your dentist prescribes acupuncture for dental pain.
